I was recently asked about Halotherapy for a person with Cancer and found myself unsure what to say. After looking into it more and reflecting on these modalities more, I thought a blog article might be the best way to touch on the topic of The Booth and diagnosed diseases.
The company the HaloRedO2 comes from has been a real help in getting this business set up, including providing a waiver template that has been customized slightly for Material Moon Refuge's location and offerings. It is clear in this waiver that Halotherapy and Red Light Therapy are not necessarily recommended for a range of ailments, including Cancer and Diabetes.
This isn't to say people with these illnesses in their life can't try the modalities, but it does mean they have choices to make. We know what our body is feeling better than anyone else, so it's up to us to make choices in relation to it. If someone has a diagnosed illness and they are considering exploring The Booth, I encourage them to consider their symptoms, their needs, and to discuss with their doctor.
For example, Red Light Therapy has been found to impact blood sugar. Research suggests this is positive BUT if you're not paying attention to your specific blood sugar levels closely, it can cause unexpected dips. If you have Diabetes and are actively managing your diagnosis and monitoring your blood sugar, you can absolutely use red light therapy as part of your self-care, but it is up to you to give extra attention to what happens in your body after a session. The waiver is a waiver because the structures and systems that we operate in require these types of agreements between parties. The research is new, and sometimes incomplete. It's up to each of us to be responsible for and accountable to our bodies.
Also - always drink water, but drink MORE water on days you have a session, it really makes a difference in how you feel after.
You get out of The Booth what you put into it, and there's lots of opportunity for it to help - but bring in your medical professionals when making decisions in relation to your personal health so you can have a wide range of wisdom to guide your discernment on how you will take the reigns of your wellness.
